What Is a Wear Layer?

The wear layer is the transparent, protective top coating on luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and luxury vinyl tile (LVT). It shields your flooring from scratches, scuffs, dents, stains, and everyday foot traffic.

Measured in mils (thousandths of an inch), the thicker the wear layer, the more durable and long-lasting the floor will be.

Our Wear Layer Thicknesses:

  • 12 mil – Standard residential
  • 20 mil – Heavy residential / light commercial
  • 22 mil – Commercial grade durability
  • 30 mil - Highest wear Layer available
